A short section of the John Muir Way in Dalmeny Estate will be closed from 5 March 2018 for utility works for Barnbougle Castle. This affects walkers and cyclists and is expected to last until mid-April. A diversion, which retains as much of the JMW as possible, will be waymarked – see diversion map for details. While circuitous, this includes the coastal section in the west of the estate.
An alternative and more direct link is also shown on the map. This follows the B924 from South Queensferry (up Hawes Brae) and enters Dalmeny Estate at Chapel Gate.
Please note that the western branch of the signed diversion into the Estate via the Leuchold Gate will be the main access for construction traffic, so increased heavy traffic is likely.
Another option for cyclists, which bypasses Dalmeny Estate completely, is to follow NCN Route 1 between South Queensferry and Cramond Brig, re-joining the JMW at these points. See Sustrans website for details.
